Hi,

In some post on this site, I read that a perl port is underway, I wanted to know its status.

I was trying gdesklets but i have an older version of gnome so I thougth to have adesklets.

I wanted to make and integrate a few desklets with some of my in-house apps, to tell the status ... etc. I did not want to go into full X-window programming for such read-only info. I have never done python but I am OK in perl. I would have loved perl bindings.

Thanks for your enquiry, prateek_cse.

Well, what happened is that the person who initially proposed Perl 5 bindings realized after a few months he did not have real use of adesklets himself, and this part of development went to oblivion. :-( I realize the documentation is misleading on this point, since I do not have a single line of perl code to offer you as we are talking.

I was myself willing to do something about it, but my last real use of perl goes back a few years, and I would need re-studying the language to provide quality code -- I have been a bit too busy elsewhere lately to bite that bucket. For an experienced perl coder, producing bindings should need no more than one or two days of solid work though. A whole chapter in the documentation (Using adesklets from other language environments) covers what need to be done.

I have no specific schedule right now for this feature...

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I will see if I can find some time to work on the perl bindings. I wont promise but will try.
