Ok, I've done a little work here in sodipodi and I've come up with a couple of logos. They're work-in-progress, mainly aimed at getting feedback towards refining (hopefully) a final project. I don't expect these to be final products in any way...just testing the waters to see what we need.

Feel free to give me honest opinions (you won't hurt my feelings...too much)...if nobody likes it, then I'll go back to the drawing screen. If I need to tweak things, then we're making steps. If they're perfect (i surely don't think that), then I'll retire and start raking in the money. :wink:

So, just a few remarks, hopefully constructive:

For the overall aspect, I prefer the two first icons to the last one: I find them lighter, more easily readable (and really more easily integrable everywhere).
I fail to see the relevance of the non-textual elements...Shoudn't we seek something non purely ornamental?
I like the glyph you use for the text, but the capitalisation is diferent from what is used all over the place: it's adesklets, without upper case letters.
Similarily, why using a @ at the beginning of the word?
Finally, what I would like is a square icon, potentially with some text aside, but a standalone application icon anyway, a bit like this one, from gDesklets:

Good good....I'm just flexing some creativity a bit to see what we want.

The decorations were just that..ornamental. I was trying to get a nice subdued but distinctive style for the logo...plain text doesnt grab your attention as much.

i forgot the the D shouldnt be capitalized...silly me. The @ was a similar attempt as being artsy...just seeing what worked best.

I'll work on that icon...I see where you're going with that...its both the logo and the icon. Looks good...I'll work more on it and get back to you on it.

For the overall appearance and layout yes, that's pretty much it.

For the icon... Well, I do not know what to think. I find the contrasts to be a bit difficult to catch, and I do not know how well it would scale either. If I get what it is, it's represents a desktop filled with small windows, am I right? I would really like some community feedback and ideas on this.

About the font color, what would it gives in black or some gray tint, as you had earlier?

ok no problem...that icon did give me a bit of worry....its a tossup between artistic variety and scalability. At least the concept came through. ;) I'll give it a shot with the same color for all the windows and see how it comes through...I'm still trying to come up with something that communicates the concept of adesklets without being too complex.

My fear is that I'm working for what I want and not necessarily what you're looking for, syfou. Doing art for someone else is a different beast than doing artwork for yourself...but I'm in, don't worry. Just have to tell my inner artist to shut up sometimes...cause sometimes he's just plain wrong. ;)

Yes, I perfeclty understand... You know, the real problem is I do not know what I want.
If it's quicker, we can just share ideas in writing instead of images for a while...

yeah man make up your mind....;) I can understand...this will be the image everyone associated with your program. Some people will only know it through this little image file. It's got to be exactly what you want. Believe me, I can respect that.

My biggest problem is that icon...I'm not quite sure what would look good right there....I dont know what I want either so its hard to take an idea and run with it. Maybe I'll do a little research and come back with something....I try to avoid it so I come up with something original, but maybe I can find some inspiration.
