Is there a way to get those two to work together? adesklets is running but nothing is shown, because the desklets are drawn "under" my desktop.

thx

I guess you read question A.3.1 from the FAQ of adesklets 0.4.6? As you saw, there is something to be done, but I am not a KDE user myself, so it is difficult due to the installation burden to do anything myself about it... So If you have time and know a little C, you are welcome to implement this... It should not be a big task for someone with the proper software in place.

This said, I plan working out a more generic window creation mechanism more compliant with the ICCCM, and I plan to provide it as an option at configuration time -- With a little luck, it should make your concern disappear. This is a big struggle because various windows managers have various level of support of the ICCCM, and I just dislike writting "special case code", especially when standards exist. I expect having the time to do it right in a two months time frame from now, as it is not really a priority.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I don't know how to code in C so I guess I'm just gonna have to live without adesklets.

Thanks anyway,
hara

Hi Hara,

I had the same problem with kde 3.3.2, but it's easily solved (I don't know that much about coding in C / Linux) by taking the "GetRootWindow" routine from the xpenguins source... :)

Now it works fine and I like the desklets!!! 8)

If it's relatively clean, just send me a patch (or post a link here); I will be happy to include it in the core package. If it's not clean, well, send it to me anyway -- I will sanitize it for you. I will need your help to check it still work, since I do not run kde myself. Regards,

No problem, I'll send it to you as soon as I have time for it. Maybe I'll try to sanitize it for learning purposes...
... and obviously I will help you to check if it's working properly (just keep in mind that I'm a noob).

Thanks for the patch, yogi77,

it has been included in the public code repository. Here is the associated, already extracted patch against adesklets 0.4.7. Let me know if there are remaining problems concerning this...

By the way, congratulations, you made it to the special rank of "core contributor" 8) .

Hello again,

just emerged (yes, I'm using gentoo) the new adesklets (0.4.8), which is supposed to work with KDE (I'm using 3.4.0), but it doesn't. When starting adesklets, I can see the desklet flash once and then disappearing. When I log out from my KDE session, just a second before I'm back at login manager, I can see the desklet on the desktop. Any clue's what might be the problem?

Thanx again,
/H

[edit]
I've emerged xpenguins and xsnow, to see if they work. Got surprised and actually see penguins and snow all over my desktop! But adesklets don't show up, until I log out and then I see desklets for about a second!?!?

[edit nr.2]
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Got it working now, seems that I had some older versions of adesklets harassing the newer one. Everything runs okay now and damn it looks gooooo-od! Love it!
